The Society for the Prosthetic Extension of Human Experience

Will SLEEP Be the Masochism of the Future?

Some say that the human race is on the verge of an evolutionary change, a shimmering transition into new and promising territory. Indeed, something seems to be emerging from the street-tech subculture of smart drugs, virtual reality, and computer networks — a desire to subvert the social order with its own tools. New cultural terrain demands new arenas of struggle.

But many questions remain unanswered. What will the next phase be? No change through constant change? Fragmented, atomized individuals united in the desire to create, or even end, history? Synthorganic fusion of cybernetic systems? Nietzscheian Supermen, or neurotic robots? Classless plastic utopia, or reified capitalism?

Whose job at the power plant is going to fuel the revolution?

The Fall: down forever into a storm of matter and idea, set against each other, forming one perfectly flawed totality. Computers in the hands of babes! Every human a virus! Render walls obsolete by a turn of phrase! Set language free to do as it pleases, and lies will lose all meaning!

Tomorrow’s battle cry: Research and destroy!

You are cordially invited to participate in AGITATIONAL ACTIVITIES. Refreshments will be served, but remember -- you may never have to eat again. [The Society for the Prosthetic Extension of Human Experience]
